Meet David Malave, DMD, Oral Surgeon

doctor malaveDr. David V. Malave was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He attended the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus and graduated with a bachelor’s in biology. He then attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine. After receiving his Dental Degree, Dr. Malave was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army.

 After residency, Dr. Malave was appointed as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Winn Army Hospital in Fort Stewart, Georgia and later served as Assistant Program Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. During his active duty career, Dr. Malave received numerous military awards including the prestigious US Army Meritorious Service Medal.

After his 14 years of active duty service, Dr. Malave was an attending surgeon at a Level 1 Trauma Center in El Paso Texas, attending to pediatric and adult facial trauma patients for 11 years. He was the recipient of the Border Heroes Award given by Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center for his long service of treating the migrant community in the El Paso area.

Dr. Malave is a fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology. He is also a member of the American Dental Association and the San Antonio District Dental Society. Dr. Malave has been married to Dr. Lisvette M. Malave for the past 28 years and they have 3 children. In his spare time, Dr Malave loves to travel, attend sports games and spend time with his children.

Dr Malave joined the San Antonio Surgical Arts Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery group in 2019 and sees patients in each of our 4 offices.
