Expose and bond therapy is an oral surgical procedure used to guide eruption of impacted permanent teeth as part of an orthodontic treatment plan to move your teeth into the correct positions. This procedure consists of uncovering a tooth, exposing it, and if necessary placing a surgical bracket, bonding it.
This helps impacted teeth erupt and move into the correct position in your dental arch. Your oral surgeon at San Antonio Surgical Arts collaborates with your orthodontist to deliver expose and bond therapy.
Using specialized equipment, your surgeon carefully removes the soft tissue covering your impacted tooth. Once your tooth is exposed they bond a dental bracket, and in some cases a small chain, to the tooth. Afterward, your orthodontist uses the bracket and chain to guide the tooth into place.
You need to rinse your mouth with lukewarm salt water solutions for the first day or so after your surgery with gentle brushing. It is normal to have swelling and discomfort, and your surgeon may prescribe medication for the first couple of days. They’ll also discuss with you how to care for your teeth throughout the therapy.
If you want to know if expose and bond treatments are right for you or your child, call San Antonio Surgical Arts or schedule an appointment online today.
