William Thornton, D.D.S., M.S.D.
Dr. William E. Thornton is a native of Abilene and a graduate of Trinity University of San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Dr. Thornton earned a degree in dentistry from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and a Master of Science Degree from Baylor University. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Thornton has practiced in the San Antonio area since 1972.
Dr. Thornton has distinguished himself as a leader in his profession and the dental community. He is well recognized and respected at both the state and local levels for his civic and philanthropic involvement, which includes serving as Mayor for the City of San Antonio. In collaboration with his associates and partners, Dr. Thornton has built and nurtured an oral surgery practice which has earned him a place of distinction in the area of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Thornton has served as a clinical professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio and has lectured at the Nursing School and Dental School. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists, and holds memberships in multiple professional and community organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the San Antonio District Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Texas Dental Association. The Baylor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alumni Association has honored Dr. Thornton with the designation of laureate for the Van Pelt Award for Scientific Excellence. Dr. Thornton is a Surveyor for Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.
